What Makes Gatewood Different
Our mission is to share our expertise with families as they build enduring wealth with purpose — equipping them with confidence for all of life's key moments.
Our Planning Philosophy
Most firms run on the traditional model: one advisor to one client. At Gatewood Wealth Solutions, every family is a client of the entire firm — a difference we call Firm-to-Family®.
Our advisory teams work together with internal specialists across tax, employer-sponsored retirement plans, insurance and investments. This structure allows everyone working on your plan to coordinate seamlessly, all with the same priority in mind: your family and your legacy.

The Decisions That Shaped Gatewood
We tell families that passing on a legacy is about more than an inheritance — the values matter just as much. We believe that when we serve families, we better society. That idea was inspired by our founder, John Gatewood, and it has shaped every major decision the firm has made since.
-
John's father entered financial services and left his son two things: the conviction that a family's plan should pass on their values, not only their money — and a question nobody had answered. Why couldn't everyone working on that plan sit in the same room?
-
After several years working alongside his father, John opened his own practice, moving from Washington, D.C., to Chicago. He brought the firm to St. Louis in 1984, where it has been headquartered — and independently owned — ever since.
-
The firm adopted a fiduciary standard. What we recommend stopped being a question of what we could sell and became a question of what the plan needs. Every promise we make today rests on that decision.
-
The Investment Committee was formed and Gatewood's proprietary strategies launched. Portfolios are researched and managed here rather than handed to an outside manager — the beginning of the holistic model our families rely on today.
-
John transitioned ownership to five partners who work in the firm: Dan Goeddel, Brian McGeehon, Christina Shockley, Aaron Tuttle and, later, Chris Arends. Gatewood remains privately held with no private equity ownership.

Creating Plans That Endure
Most advisory relationships are built around one person. When that person retires, passes away, sells to an outside buyer or simply gets busy, your plan changes with them — because the plan becomes dependent on the person managing it.
We built Gatewood differently. Ownership sits with five partners who work here every day — not with a private equity investor, and not with the founder. Investment research, tax work, insurance and estate strategy are handled by specialists inside the firm rather than referred out. And every family is served by a team, so your plan keeps moving no matter who is in the room.
That structure is what lets us make a promise most firms cannot: the plan you build here is designed to outlast any one person.
